We have recently acquired a Stampe SV-4, a beautiful vintage airplane designed in Belgium in the 1930s by two Belgian engineers, Jean Stampe & Maurice Vertongen, who had both a passion for flying. The initials of their surnames respectively gave birth to the acronym SV-4.
Our biplane, registered as OO-GWB, is a SV-4b, a more sophisticated version of the first SV-4 which was designed (the SV-4a), and equipped with a de Havilland Gipsy Majorengine of 145 hP. A former training airplane of the Belgian Air Force, our airplane is referred to as nr 29 of a series of 64 similar aircraft. She is also equipped with a canopy.
We expect to cross Africa with this new (old!) airplane. We will soon start a blog on this trip. In the meantime, you can follow us on www.crete2cape.com.
