Towards a European Instrument Rating for private pilots

The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is currently working on the elaboration of a European IR rating specific to private pilots. A consultative document was published in the end of September. It contains various very interesting proposals which will allow private pilots to be able to fly safely in IMC, avoiding the burden, cost and duration of a classic IR rating. This IR rating would be recognised in all EASA countries.

We are now going to analyse this document (more than 200 pages!) and will keep you posted on any further developments in this area!
